Zoo Day

I took Lydia to the zoo.  We had fun, but learned never to go to the zoo when it's 96 degrees out.  Here are some pictures.  And I had a little fun with the effects everyone is using these days.

Of course, we had to get the traditional monkey picture.

And one with the tigers.

Don't forget to check out the globe.

Saw lots of fun animals today.

The favorites were birds of course.

Had to see the chimps.  They were smart, they were in out of the heat.

Ooooh, creepy snakes.

Got to ride the carousel.

Had to size up with the chimp.

And the penguin.

Riding a tortoise.

Checking out the new sea lion exhibit.

More statue shots.

Lookin' cute.

Sicilian Donkey.  (The one on the left.)

"Can I pet it?"

Observing some peacocks--they must have been hot, they didn't move much.

Watching the otters play.

Some of the animals we saw.

And a picture of a flamingo that I forgot to include in that collage.

Poetry Sharing

We like to get together with friends and share poetry.  We shared classics today like Jabberwocky by Lewis Carroll; Wynken, Blynken, and Nod by Eugene Field; a couple of selections from The Lord of the Rings; Peter, Peter, Pumpkin Eater from the classic Mother Goose, a couple of originals, and more.  Fun times!  Scroll to the bottom to read three originals by Lydia.

Me and My Sister
When I was young and stupid,
All I said was, "Boopid."
When my sister went berserk,
All she said was, "Urk."

The Otter
Once I went out to water,
And I met a little otter.
He said he was fine,
But he had been drinking wine.
Oh, that terrible, terrible otter.

I'm the Dragon of Grindly Grun (based on a character created by Shel Silverstein)
I'm the Dragon of Grindly Grun.
All I have is so much fun.
I smoke a knight,
Till he's out of sight.
I'm the Dragon of Grindly Grun.
