Christmas Day

Christmas day...time to open presents!
Geronimo Stilton, Kingdom of Fantasy!

Runny Babbit!

A baby penguin!

Money!  (About the only thing teenagers seem to want.)  To help pay for Lego Mindstorms!

A microscope!

Cards from Great Grandma and Great Grandpa!

Stockings!

Watch this video about the item that Ty has been saving up for.

Well, not sure what happened with the text in my video.  The last part blurred and I can't seem to fix it.  I ordered the robot, and hid it away.  I let Ty open his regular presents and then when he was ready to order his robot, I came out of the hall with a box.  The rest is in the video.  :)

Enjoying her Christmas book.

Merry Christmas

I've been having fun lately figuring out things my camera can do.

Festival of Trees (and elaborate Gingerbread Houses)

We went to the Philbrook Museum to see the Festival of Trees.  I thought I took more pictures of the trees.  There were many pretty trees, and many interesting ones, too.  There were trees that incorporated peacock feathers.  There were two "trees" made from plastic bottles.  There were knitted, felted trees.  There was pretty stained glass.  Here are the few pictures I took.

A pretty tulle tree.

I think this one was called "Sugar Plum Delight," or something similar.  There are cupcake ornaments on it.

This tree was in the hall in another part of the museum.  I don't think it was part of the Festival of Trees display, but I thought it was pretty.

This one was very interesting.  It's hard to see in the picture, but it's covered in jeweled spiders.  See the picture below for a close-up of one.  It's theme is the Christmas Spider.  Click the link below to read the folk legend.

Here are the fantastic gingerbread houses.  I thought the use of Barbie dolls was a bit odd, though.

This one is a Mayan pyramid.

This was impressive.  I love how the icing drips down the walls.  See the picture below for a close-up.

Hansel and Gretel--apropos theme for a gingerbread house.

I liked the detail here of the camper in a tent.  It's a toothpick with a face, lying in a Laffy Taffy sleeping bag.

The Wizard of Oz.  This house was made by the Red Cross, so you see they included a Red Cross truck.  Notice the witch's legs sticking out from under the house.

A Twizzler archway, with a Hershey bar-covered building.

Then, it was out back to the magnificent garden.  Here a picture in the gazebo.

Lydia on the balcony, with the garden behind.

The trees were underlit, some in green, some in white.  It was lovely.  The kids thought they looked spooky, though, like they belonged with Halloween, rather than Christmas.  :)

Good times.

Christmas Lists

Ty has given me a list of things he would like for Christmas (besides the big item he is saving for) -

iTunes gift cards
Money
Black WitTwo Type C 2x2x2 Cube
Origami paper
2 New brick separators
Stackmat Timer

Lydia on the other hand has not written a list out, but told me the other day that she wants -

A car engine
10 screws

She seems to be into fixing things.  She fixed a broken knob on my bathroom cabinet.  I looked up car engines online last night to show her how much they cost.  I found one that was used for about $1700.  When I told her about it, she said, "No!  It must be a new, shiny engine."  Hmm.  She asked us if we could start saving for one.  I didn't answer right away.  Ever persuasive that she is, she said she would contribute; she said we could all pool our money together.  I asked her if she could start working on something smaller, like an appliance or something.  No, has to be a car engine.  Maybe we shouldn't have sold our Mazda.  :)

Had some fun taking pictures of my neighbor's sycamore tree.  (And some fun editing, too.)
